Emotional Intelligence

The personal behaviour of leaders impacts business results.

Emotional Intelligence, also known as EQ , has been a subject of a great deal of research.

EQ is quickly becoming one of the top sought job skills. A skill that we are never taught but left on our own to figure out. So much of our schooling focuses on IQ and not enough on EQ

According to the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report, emotional intelligence will be one of the top 10 job skills in 2020. The awareness that emotional intelligence has become an important job skill even surpassing technical ability, has been growing over the last number of years. A Career Builder Survey of more than 2,600 hiring managers and human resource professionals found the following:

* 71 percent stated they valued emotional intelligence in an employee over IQ

* 77.5 percent said they were more likely to promote a high EI worker

* 75.9 percent claimed they would not hire someone with a high IQ if they had low EI

There are a lot of reasons that high emotional intelligence skills are increasingly sought after by those hiring. Here are a few of the most common reasons that employers value people with high emotional intelligence.

they are better able to handle pressure

* they have an increased level to understand and cooperate with others

* are good listeners

are open to feedback

* more empathetic towards others

* set an excellent example for others

* make more thoughtful and thorough decisions

With the rates of change and pressures in the workplace increasing, people who have enhanced ability to adapt to change, manage their emotions and work well with a diverse range of people will become much sought after by employers and human resource departments in all areas of the workplace.

EQ has been proven as the most reliable predictor of success, even over IQ. Why is it so important? Emotions drive thoughts, thoughts drive behaviour, behaviour then drives performance, and performance drives outcomes both in ‘your’ role and in the outcomes you are trying to achieve with your peers and teams. What goes on under the surface has a huge impact on what you see.

So how do you trip the neurological trip switch? Understand brain science and boost your emotional intelligence. A critical first step is ‘wanting’ to build your emotional intelligence and allowing yourself and your coach into the inner recesses of your mind and to analyse your behaviours.

We combine executive coaching with practical behavioural techniques to assess, observe, and discuss bespoke situations designed to improve their EQ and maximise their leadership and social skills. This is explored within the 4 main competencies required: Self-awareness, social awareness, relationship management, and self-management.

It is a soft skill that packs a hard punch! Whether you are a leader, a manager, or a team member with aspirations to move up the ranks; developing a high sense of EQ is critical to excellent performance and leadership. It denotes the difference between an intelligent and informed leader and a truly aspirational one. People do not leave bad jobs; they leave bad bosses! Which one are you? A skilled Kudos coach accredited in both executive coaching and NLP will use a combination of discussion, observation, feedback and developmental behavioural techniques to heighten their client’s EQ
